Dr. Katherine Williams

Education

Dr. Katherine Williams, born in Baton Rouge and raised in New Orleans, graduated from Academy of the Sacred Heart. She obtained her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of New Orleans, and attended LSU Medical School in New Orleans. She completed her residency training at Charity Hospital in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 2015, she completed her fellowship in New York with the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health or ISSWSH.

Private Practice

She began private practice in Laplace, LA, in 1998 and her practice grew quickly thanks to her ability to relate to women and adolescent girls in particular. Dr. Williams spoke frequently to groups of women and young girls in schools, hospitals, and other settings.

After moving to Covington in 2003, she founded the Center for Women’s Health where she hired her nurse practitioner, Kelly Brewste. The practice blossomed under their leadership. To meet the demands of her thriving practice, Dr. Williams hired two new physicians, Dr. Rachael Cresap and Dr. Jamie Hymel. This allowed Dr. Williams to focus on her many interests within gynecology, especially sexual health.

In 2007, Dr. Williams and Kelly began a clinic within the practice focused on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Too many women with this condition were dismissed by their physicians and told to just lose weight. Dr. Williams and Kelly developed a system to help these patients address the many facets of PCOS, and to improve their self-esteem and their heart and reproductive health.

Southern Institute for Women’s Sexual Health

Dr. Williams partnered with hematologist oncologist Dr. Jay Saux and trested his breast cancer patients who experienced sexual side effects after chemotherapy and radiation. Sexual dysfunction, pelvic pain, and menopausal patients are Dr. Williams’ fastest growing patient populations. To better understand their needs, she completed a fellowship with the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health in 2015. The knowledge gained during this fellowship allowed Dr. Williams to make more precise diagnoses and effective treatment plans for her most challenging patients. In order to give these patients the time and resources needed to deliver the best care they deserve, Dr. Williams founded SIWSH. Together with physical therapists who specialize in women’s health, this new team treats many women with chronic pain who frequently think there’s no hope. The most rewarding aspects of Dr. Williams’ work are helping her patients to feel alive again, to regain the intimacy they deserve, and to restore their quality of life.

Achievements

Dr. Williams became a da Vinci certified Robotic Surgeon in 2009, and completed more than 650 robotic cases. She receives referrals from other physicians of their complex cases , operating on them with the da Vinci system. She now trains other physicians in this sophisticated method of surgery.

Dr. Williams is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She jowned the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) in 2014 and became a fellow of ISSWSH in 2015. She serves her local community through her involvement with St. Tammany Parish Hospital Board of Commissioners and as the Chairman of the Louisiana Medical Disclosure Panel. In 2011, she became the first female chief of staff at St. Tammany Parish Hospital, and continues to be certified in the latest technology and devices that benefit her patients.
